2 x 4 tangos for kids
It invites to discover tango in the known space of an illustrated
book.
What is tango? As Enrique Santos Discépolo
so well said, “tango is a sad thought that can be danced to”.
In late nineteenth-century Buenos Aires - in that funnel of dreams
where, day by day, the Rio de La Plata poured in Italian and Spanish,
Polish and Russian immigrants, people from the interior of Argentina
as well as from neighbouring countries, anxious and fearful seekers
of a prosperous and yet elusive future – a different music,
which was cadenced and taciturn at times, and unashamed and even
scandalous at others began to be danced to.
Tango grew from the shores of the city; it crossed the ocean and
conquered Paris. Around the 20’s, it became a sad thought
that could not only be danced to but also sung.
